Top Things to Do in Chiang Mai - Thailand
So, if you follow me on Instagram or have read my previous blog posts you might already know that this Songrkran we went to Chiangmai to celebrate this water festival. Chiang Mai is a city in mountainous northern Thailand. Founded in 1296, it was capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom until 1558. Its Old City area still retains vestiges of walls and moats from its history as a cultural and religious center. It’s also home to hundreds of elaborate Buddhist temples.
Things to do in Chiang Mai
Chiangmai offers something for everyone. Whether you’re into culture, architecture, hiking, sports, food, history, pampering yourself, or into exploring new places; this place certainly has something special for you. So, below I have listed some of the best things to do in Chian Mai.
- Visit Temples or Wats in Chiangmai:
Chiang Mai is one of the many former capitals of Buddhism in Southeast Asia. This city so many ancient temples and they are absolutely worth checking out. Below, I have shared few pictures of the temples we visited during our Chiang Mai Trip:

- Visit Tha Phae Gate
Tha Pae Gate is one of the most famous landmarks in Chiang Mai. It has a long and fascinating history, stretching back to when the province acted as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom from the 13th-18 century. The large brick-paved plaza in front of the gate is often used for shows or markets during festivals. If you're feeling the need for a caffeine reinforcement, there are two well known coffee shops in the gate area. Outside the gate, right on the corner. Just inside the gate is a branch of a Thai chain, Black Canyon, where you can get some good Thai food to go with your coffee.

- Eat Traditional Thai Food at the Food Stalls or at any Traditional Thai Restaurants.
- Enjoy Hotel Buffet & Swimming at your Hotel.
