The Royal Twin Pagodas

The Royal Twin  Pagodas-Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Bhumisiri

So, next stop of our tour was The Twin Pagodas. This is a five-star attraction of Doi Inthanon National Park. The King and Queen Pagodas, were built by the Royal Thai Air Force in 1987 and 1992 to commemorate the King's and Queen's 60th birthdays. The brown one is of the king & the purple one is of the queen(Queen’s Pagoda is actually smaller). They sit just on opposite peaks, facing each other and share the same designs. They are surrounded by picturesque gardens and views from there are breathtaking.

The King  Pagoda- Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon

So, we first visited The King Pagoda.

Each pagoda has a large stair case and a escalator to bring you up to the pagodas but you have to climb the stairs to come down.

Inside the King Pagoda is a Buddha statue and its walls and ceilings are beautifully decorated with some amazing artwork. The panels on the walls depict important events in Buddhism. The exterior of the pagoda is also decorated with panels of beautiful Buddhist artwork as well.  The view from the King's pagoda was absolutely stunning!

From there we made our way back down the stairs and took escalator up to the Queen’s Pagoda.

The Queen Pagoda- Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Bhumisiri

The Queen’s Pagoda is covered in beautiful artwork both inside and out. The gardens are lovely to walk around, lots of interesting plants and a good view of the surrounding area. We took a little walk around the beautiful garden that surround the Queen Pagoda. We wanted to spend more time walking around the garden but had to rush back cause our tour guy was waiting for us. I wish we could spend some more time there as we had only 40 minutes to cover both Pagodas and gardens.

In a nutshell, with an incredible architecture, beautiful flower gardens, the panoramic view and amazing weather this is one of the must-see place in Doi Inthanon National Park. This place offers a great photography opportunity for amazing and remarkable pictures.

These pagodas are certainly worth a visit!
